Organizing Your Home and Life

Don’t Forget the Car

Posted on: July 13, 2009

If you are a busy parent like I am, you spend a lot of your time in the car.  In fact, with working and after school activities, I spend most of my time in the car.  So being the organized person that I am, I have figured out how to  keep my car as neat and organized as possible so that it works best with my life.  I have collected a few “must knows” regarding keeping your vehicle organized.

1.  Keep a small crate or box in the trunk for errands that you are doing for the day such as books to return to the library,  dry cleaning, etc.

2.  Put an “emergency kit” underneath one of the seats in the car.  Keep in a gallon size ziploc bag.  In it should be essentials such as a towel, baby wipes, extra change of clothes for the little ones, spare diapers (if you have one in diapers), etc.  All of these things are to be used in case of any emergency inside the car.

3.  Keep your registration and proof of insurance in a small envelope and in the glove box.  That way if anything happens you can go right to it.  Also keep a list of emergency numbers there.

4.  Always keep a small trash bag in the car.  These can be easily found online or at Target or Walmart.  These are a must have to keep any car clean.  Each time you get gas, empty out the trash bag.

5.  Take a minute each day to clean out your car.  Throw out the trash and take important items into the house or office.

6.  Keep a roadside emergency kit in the car…flashlight, jumper cables, first aid kit, etc.
